Raising demand for cutting leather
New projects for automotive, first class seats in the railway industry as well as our expansion into new segments of the mobility market brought our team new challenge in form of processing leather.
We addressed different sewing and upholstering processes to ensure our leather remains in perfect form throughout the manufacturing process.
The real challenge laid in cutting hides.
Difference between cutting roles and hides
As most of you know, cutting artificial leather and textile is relatively straightforward. We receive roles of material, check their quality, place them into our cutting machine, nest pieces efficiently and produce the perfect cut.
With leather, the process is way more complex. Hides have irregular shapes as well as scars and other defects that should not be on the final product, quality varies across the piece and it is crucial to maximize material utilization for cost-effectiveness.
Improved utilization through automation
Initially, we relied on external partners for leather cutting. Later we transitioned to internal cutting trials to gather know-how.
Last week we have acquired new advanced technology produced by MiriSys which has revolutionized the way we cut leather.
With MiriSys‘ autonesting technology, we are now capable of scanning the hides for imperfections, automatically nest the cut pieces in the optimal locations for maximal utilization and cut them precisely – all in a matter of seconds.
Improving efficiency and cost-effectivity
This technology has made our leather cutting process more efficient than ever before.
The nesting process that took us hours before got reduced to minutes. The utilization of hides got nearly doubled which makes our leather cutting service way more cost-effective.
Overall this technology enables us to offer competitive prices to new customers as well as reducing costs on ongoing projects.
